And so begins this year. In a mall not that far away, I found absolutely nothing of interest today, but in another mall somewhat further away in the other direction, I finally found a nice piece of fabric for my Jawa display costume's robes. Though it was really a curtain, it won't really matter, it will get cut up anyway as soon as I get the time to do other things. As of now I have been working hard to complete the Gynoid Zenia and finally got to start spray painting her body parts white recently, so it should all come together nicely soon. Of course one of the problems with spray painting things is that the whole room stinks like hell after that, and most of that smell gets everywhere else too through the gaps between the doors and such things, so today I wanted to buy a rubber sealing trim for the door to solve this problem. They didn't have any of this at the first store where I thought they had it, but instead I found some nice knee pads there to solve my other problem of getting sore knees from sitting down on them all the time when I'm building things. Another nice item I found there was actually just a cheap toy microphone, just the same as I used to have as a kid, so I knew already that any sound made into it would be vibrated further by a coiled spring suspended cup inside it, making an instand echo to any sound. What the fudge will this be used for, you say? Well it turned out by playing around with an empty Pringles can at my friend Lassor's place made me discover that my voice would get really dark when growling into such a can, so by modifying this can with the toy microphone for echo effect and adding a voice changer circuit board to it to make my voice even darker, it will just about sound just like the dark, growling moan of a Big Daddy from the BioShock games, or more precicely the voice of the one Big Daddy called Subject Delta who I am making a costume of, so the voice effects will of course be for this helmet instead of having to hook up some old MP3 player to it to play the same random moans over and over again when I can make the moans myself to whatever speed or sound I want. In the same mall where I bought the fabric for my Jawa display costume, a store selling weird costumes and other perverted party items were about to close down and was selling everything at half price, that is when I thought about the lenses they used to sell there and wanted to see if they had any more left at half the cost. Luckily enough they had just the right ones for my pre-armored Darth Vader costume, looking like red and yellow evil irises called Wildfire. I do believe these same lenses were later renamed to Darth Maul by the company since they looked exactly like the eyes one would get by turning to the dark side, but I don't really care what the name is anyway, these are good enough. I suppose naturally some people are squeamish about putting some foreign objects onto their eyes, but so far I've had about 2 and a half kilos of grinded metal and other crap fly into my eye cavity for years while building things, so poking a soft piece of colored rubber onto my eye doesn't really get to me at all when I usually poke a wet Q-tip around in my eye socket to clean it, which of course is much worse. And so back to that rubber sealing trim again. A different store where I knew they must have had it did in fact have it, so I bought one along with two packs of chromed edge trims for Zenia. Getting back to the workroom, I spray painted more of Zenia's parts after attaching the rubber sealing trim to the door frame, and sure enough it helped keeping in the smell. Alas opening the door to get out of the room made the smell ooze out into the hallway anyway...
